The dead body of a woman in her 20s was found lying in the tall grass on the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Cascades roads.
The Police Provisional Communications Officer, Major Mack Mngomezulu confirmed that the police were called to the scene by a security guard from BCI Security.
“Her body was found half naked. The officers suspect that she was first raped and then murdered,” said Maj Mngomezulu.
He could not confirm how she was murdered but said that a case of murder and rape has been opened at the Honeydew Police Station.
The devastated family of the deceased were on the scene mourning the loss of their sister, Brenda Rwando.
According to a neighbour of the family, Rwando was walking home from work on 24 March and was attacked at around 7pm.
A family member of the deceased (who asked to remain nameless) was seen picking up the deceased’s handbag and various other items strewn all over the murder scene. A friend of the family said that Rwando had clearly put up a fight as her earring, some money and a lighter were found a couple feet away from where her body was found.
A large framed cracked mirror, which might have been used in the attack, was also found on the scene.
The reason for the attack was still unclear due to the fact that the deceased’s handbag, some groceries and her purse were still on scene.
The community of Little Falls and surrounds paid their respects by placing bunches of flowers to show their sympathy.
