WATCH: FlySafair now flies to Lanseria

Excitement was in the air at Lanseria International Airport as the first FlySafair flight arrived from Cape Town and landed to a warm welcome.

Spectators as well as FlySafair and Lanseria staff stood on the balcony of the main terminal building ready to welcome the very first FlySafair airplane at Lanseria. The expectant crowd could hardly contain their excitement when the pink, blue and white airplane finally arrived on 1 August. Two firetrucks waited on the runway to salute the plane with a welcoming and spectacular spray of water .

The low cost carrier was launched in October 2014 and has made waves with its affordable airfares, saving the South African public up to R809 million in airfares. CEO of FlySafair Operations, Elmar Conradie said they are very excited about the first scheduled flight from Cape Town to Lanseria. He explained that there will be two flights between Cape Town to Lanseria every day.

In October the flights will expand to George over weekends. The airline currently have seven aircrafts, but plan to have nine by October. “Thank you so much to Lanseria for the support,” said Conradie.

CEO of Lanseria, Rampa Rammopo congratulated the FlySafair team. “We are looking forward to welcoming passengers to our airport,” said Rammopo.
