Local ward councillor elected new MMC

Ward 97 councillor, Leah Knott has agreed to assume the position of Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Economic Development in the City of Johannesburg.

The news was made public on 7 August. Leah holds a legal qualification and acquired years of experience in the property development planning industry prior to becoming a councillor.

Under Leah’s leadership, the Department of Economic Development will be driving the implementation of the City’s jobs and growth strategy. The key deliverables of this strategy will be the achievement of investment and job creation.

In a statement released by the office of the Executive Mayor, councillor Herman Mashaba, the Mayor is said to be confident that she will play an invaluable role in this regard.

“I have every confidence in MMC Knott’s abilities and wish her well in this new role. I am confident that she will continue to serve the residents of our City with distinction,” the statement read.

Leah has played an integral part in mediating various issues and communicating with the residents in her ward. In her position as councillor since her appointment last year, Leah has been very involved in power outage, traffic and road, and housing issues in the area. She also took a stand against illegal advertising and signage.
