The Johannesburg West Cluster police are pleased about the large number of suspects who were nabbed for various crimes, ranging from armed robberies, violence, and possession of unlicensed firearms.

Captain Johannes Maja, the Randburg Police spokesperson, revealed that more than 150 suspects were arrested by various police stations in the cluster last month. He said a few of the suspects who were nabbed for robberies were traced by the detectives.

“The crimes range from possession of dagga, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm in terms of the Domestic Violence Act, possession of house-breaking implements, theft, possession of suspected stolen property, malicious damage to property and drunk driving offences,” Maja explained.

Maja highlighted two successes which stood out from the rest of the arrests.

He said two suspects between the ages of 22 and 26 are expected to appear in court soon facing charges of armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The suspects are accused of robbing their victim at gunpoint while he was withdrawing money in Fourways last month.

Another is the arrest of three suspects in Diepsloot who robbed a shopkeeper at gunpoint and tied him up with electrical cord. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money, several boxes of cigarettes, recharge vouchers and cellphones.

Maja concluded by saying that the suspects would appear in various courts in the Johannesburg West Cluster.
