A meeting is apparently set to take place this afternoon to address the residents of Mtombo, a local informal settlement situated a stone’s throw away from Cradlestone Mall.

This meeting, which is likely to involve the Mogale City Local Municipality Mayor, Patrick Lipudi, councillors and community forums, is aimed at addressing the possible relocation of the Mtombo dwellers to a site on Plot 11.

The Mayor’s office was contacted to confirm the meeting. However, Nkosana Zali, the municipal spokesperson said he was not aware of such a meeting involving the Mayor this afternoon.

Residents from as far afield as Farm City, Oaktree, Kromdraai, Protea Ridge, Rant-en-Dal and The Cradle will apparently be affected by this move.

According to a source, tensions are expected to rise at the meeting as there are beneficiaries in Mogale City who have been waiting for housing and are likely to be disgruntled by the prioritisation of the Mtombo dwellers who are believed to be immigrants.

The meeting is expected to be held at 5pm on Plot 11 in Honingklip near Usambara Lodge.
