The South African National Blood Service’s (SANBS) current supply of blood and blood products is critically low.

As of 12 September (the levels change daily) they had enough blood to supply Johannesburg for 2,2 days. The national supply level was at 1,8 days, and platelet levels were at 0,7 days.

SANBS public relations practitioner, Lebo Seatholo, explained that it’s safest to have 5 days’ stock.
