The tough year of sporting and academics finally bore fruit for Allen Glen High School, which was awarded a Certificate of Excellence by the Gauteng Department of Education.

The school received the prestigious certificate and trophy on 24 November. Both items were displayed in the school’s staff-room so that every teacher could be part of the celebration.

The award came as a result of the incredible rugby season, which saw the school’s 1st and U/15 teams compete in the Beeld Vir Seker trophy competition.

The 1st team was ousted in the finals of the cup, while the U/15s bowed out in the semi-finals. Both teams competed against the champions, Belvedere School from Benoni.

A proud Warren Mackrill, the school governing body chairperson, said, “It’s really prestigious to receive this award. Last year we were runner-ups in the D12,” he said.

Warren added that the school won fair and square. “All schools entered. Everything was done above board. Information was put together and an independent auditor had to come in for verification and judging of the entries,” he explained.
