Drunken driving believed to be the cause of major crashes

The completely destroyed vehicle involved in the first accident attended by BCI Security.

Allegations of driving under the influence of alcohol resulted in two horrid crashes over the weekend, according to reports by BCI Security.

The security company attended to two separate major accidents on Hendrik Potgieter Road. The drivers ‘at fault’ in both accidents were believed to be drunk.

Firstly BCI was alerted to a major accident involving two vehicles, a Jeep and an Audi, at the Hendrik Potgieter and Van der Kloof Roads intersection in Ruimsig.

The security officers found one vehicle stationary across the carriageway while the other had come to a rest down an embankment after hitting a tree.

According to the report, witnesses who spoke to BCI alleged that the driver of one of the vehicles was at fault and was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Witnesses also reported that they had seen the driver and another person loading a large amount of alcohol from the wrecked vehicle into another vehicle.

The occupants of the Audi were transported to a local hospital by ER24 for further treatment.

JMPD officers arrived on scene shortly afterwards and breathalysed the driver of the vehicle allegedly at fault. He was found to be three times over the drink-and-drive limit and was subsequently arrested and taken to Honeydew Police Station for processing.

The second accident involved only one vehicle and happened at the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Christiaan de Wet Roads.

The driver was also allegedly found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident and was airlifted to a nearby hospital by Netcare 911 helicopter for urgent medical assistance.
