A hiding place for criminals will soon be vacated and neatness will be restored in the greater Wilgeheuwel area, following the donation of a brand new grass cutter machine to Ward 97.

As the municipality battles to keep up with its grass-cutting schedules, the community developed a need for a speedy solution to the grass problem, as the long grass offers vagrants and various criminals a great place to hide. Consequently, the neighbourhood decided to try and raise funds for a grass cutter.

Even before the residents could gather the money, Absolut Security came to the fore and bought the grass cutter for the community.

The official handover was made during the Honeydew Sector 3 Community Policing Forum meeting on 11 April.

Absolut managing director, Gibbs Alberts, highlighted his reasons for the donation. “Two of the reasons to get involved were for escapees not to be able to hide in the area and improving the neatness of the community,” he said.

He added that they were aware of the shortage of funds in the city and had to assist where they could. “We heard the complaints about the shortage of funds and thought it would be a good idea to buy the grass cutter because it benefits the entire community,” he explained. The machine is valued at over R5 000.

Ward 97 Proportional Representative, councillor Ralf Bittkau commended the security company. “This should serve as an example, because this is what A Re Sebetseng means – working together,” he said. “The more we work together, the faster we will get the city back to being a place we are proud of,” he went on.

The grass cutter will be used in all A Re Sebetseng and general clean-ups in the ward.
