Humpty Dumpty Playschool’s Grade R class paid Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital a visit during which they were treated to all sorts of activities in and around the hospital.

Their day started as soon as they arrived when paediatrician Dr Izanie Weideman showed them some of the usual tests that are carried out when one is admitted to hospital.

According to Life Wilgeheuwel’s marketing and communications coordinator, Celia van Wyk, they were really thrilled by some of the tests.

“The little ones enjoyed seeing their heartbeat and oxygen levels on the monitor and thought it was magical when they could see their veins with the vein finder,” Celia said.

They were also treated to a game of ‘find the ouches’ after which they all got dressed up to go to theatre, where one of the sisters told them a bit more about ehat goes on there.

They visited the emergency unit on their way out, and even got a chance to go on an ambulance ride with the Quick Response Services paramedics.

When they returned, they were met by Rebecca Naidoo, unit manager of one of the wards.

She told them more about the importance of handwashing, taught them a few handwash songs and then helped them to do their ‘clean hands save lives’ pledge with a hand print on a banner.

When asked what they had learned during the morning, the little ones said: “Not to be afraid of a hospital, always wash your hands as germs can make you sick, make way when an ambulance is driving behind mommy and daddy so that they can pass, and doctors help to make patients get better.”
