An intruder was bust by local security while trespassing on a property in Weltevreden Park in the early hours of 8 August.
BCI Security, who detained the suspect, was alerted to the incident at 2.15am by a neighbour in the Devon Valley area.
“Our dedicated Devon Valley vehicle, backed up by our Tactical Response Team, was at the property within two minutes. The suspect was found on the property and detained,” said Gary Jordaan, BCI Security’s media liaison officer.
He added that upon further investigation it was found that the electric fence had been cut and tools used for break-ins were found in the suspect’s bag.
“The suspect was arrested by Honeydew Police a short while later, and it was found that he was wanted for other break-ins in the area as well,” Gary confirmed.
According to Gary, it was further alleged that the suspect was employed by several residents in the area to do building work.
This revelation led him to warn residents about who they employ. “It is extremely important if you employ anyone to do work on your property to ensure that they are properly vetted and reference-checked. This is imperative for anyone you let into your house,” he cautioned.
