HTS N Diederichs was given a helping hand by Hirsch’s Strubens Valley and Monument Rotary to raise funds and assist them in their quest to try and achieve international glory.
A team from Hirsch’s Struben’s Valley was invited to join the Monument Rotary Club at a raffle draw which both parties helped to sponsor. The draw took place at the HTS N Diederichs. The raffle, for which hundreds of tickets were sold over the last few months, was won by Don Smythe from Linmeyer.
The school has been chosen to represent South Africa in Abu Dhabi in the Land Rover 4×4 Challenge, which mirrors the design and manufacturing process of a real off-road car as it would be done by the professional engineers at Land Rover. The school’s specific challenge is to design, assemble and manufacture the next generation off-road car to compete in the 2018 off-road league, which they do with much smaller, scale model remote-controlled vehicles.
By purchasing a ticket, the community had the chance to support HTS N Diederichs in assembling their car and compete in this competition. A total of R30 000 was collected to support the learners that are participating.
Principal Anton Strauss thanked both the Rotary Club and Hirsch’s for being part of this special challenge.
