Panorama Football Club brought a ground-breaking year to an end with their annual year-end function at the club on Saturday, 20 October.
For Panorama, 2018 has been a landmark year as the club continuously broke new ground on and off the pitch. Early in the year, they held one of the club’s biggest season-opening tournaments. All the club’s available fields were filled with hundreds of children playing to make mom and dad proud.
As the year went on, many firsts were achieved by the juniors at the club, with the U/9A side becoming the first team from outside the Joburg West Local Football Association to not only take part in the Steven Pienaar Tournament, but also take home the trophy as they went unbeaten throughout the competition. They weren’t the only little league side to perform out of their shoes this year however, as the U/11A team travelled to Portugal and reached the quarter-finals of the competition they took part in, a remarkable achievement as teams from around the world took part. Panorama also added to their existing facilities as they built two brand-new open-air indoor courts at the club, and also renovated the interior of the clubhouse. Undoubtedly the club’s biggest achievement this year has been the addition of an SAB League team, which plays in the Central Johannesburg Stream of the SAB League.
The year-end prize-giving took place on one of the club’s indoor courts with the sun shining bright overhead. The ceremony started off with the little league teams (U/6 to U/11). Each player received a trophy and a certificate for their immense dedication throughout the year. Christian Liyolongo was named the club’s Little League Player of the Year, Reggie Moloi was named the Little League Coach of the Year and the U/11A team was the Little League Team of the Year. When it came to the junior league teams (U/12 to U/19), each player again received a trophy and a certificate for their hard work.
Ethan Brooks was the Junior League Player of the Year, Lester Vergie was the Junior League Coach of the Year and U/13B team was the Junior League Team of the Year. Finally, the club’s overall Player of the Year award was handed to Nokoane Otlotleng, who along with Ethan are the only two U/17 players taking part in the SAB League.
