Network disruption for Telkom consumers is expected to become something of the past as the telecommunications company has signed a partnership with Vodacom.

This, according to Telkom, is an effort to ensure quality service for their consumers.

The mobile network provider announced the roaming and facilities leasing agreement with Vodacom on 7 November.

The partnership, signed at the Telkom Headquarters in Centurion, is part of the network provider’s continued drive to invest in network expansion and provide its users with better customer experience.

According to Serame Taukobong, CEO of Telkom Consumer, Telkom users will benefit immensely from the seamless handover in the roaming agreement since this will eliminate dropped calls when customers are moving between the two networks.

“As we invest in network expansion, we had a look at – among other issues, the dropped calls which have a significant impact on customer experience,” said Taukobong.

Telkom has been roaming on MTN. That partnership has allowed more Telkom users to gain coverage when roaming through the MTN network. “This is a part of growth for us. This new partnership gives us an opportunity to reach more corners of South Africa and continue our mission to give more for less,” Taukobong added.

Their contract with MTN expires in June 2019. “Telkom is working to ensure a seamless handover, ensuring that customer calls will continue uninterrupted when Telkom customers move into an area with Vodacom coverage,” Taukobong explained.

A day after this announcement, Telkom also announced another partnership with the leading internet entertainment service, Netflix.

The partnership is Netflix’s first such agreement with a South African telecommunications company and a significant milestone as the company seeks to bring South African consumers the latest technologies and a great entertainment experience.
